Understanding Punctuation Marks as Symbols
For many writer, punctuation like commas and semicolons can be a particular thorn in the side. But it doesn't have to be. Rather than focusing on rules, this handout approaches punctuation as a system of symbols that have meaning within themselves. Connecting Ideas as a Writer
Skilled writers take advantage of words and phrases to link ideas, both within and between paragraphs, to make if easier for readers to follow along. Nevertheless, as writers we often fall into ruts with our transitions, using the same words over and over. This handout provides a valuable resource bank of transitions that can be kept close at hand during any writing project. Developed with Mary Beth Moore.
